Jamaica Trip

June 23-30, 2008

Harmons, Jamaica is a remote village located in the Mid-Southern region of the Island (approximately a 30 minute drive south of Mandeville). Won by One has been serving the people of Harmons since 1988, beginning with the hurricane relief work of Henry Shaffer and sons of DuBois, Pennsylvania. The primary ministries in Harmons include building and repairing homes, other construction related services; food, clothing, and medical supplies distribution. In short, Won by One meets the physical and spiritual needs of the community with whatever resources are available. Throughout the year, teams of high school and college students and church groups serve with Won by One in Harmons through week-long trips.

We hope to take up to 25 students. These students will spend time with Jamaicans in Harmons, getting a feel for their culture, and gaining a better understanding of their lives while building relationships with them. Our expectation is that we will all return home with a fresh perspective, a greater understanding of God, and a renewed passion for those who are underserved and for those walk through life without an understanding of who Christ is.

As far as leadership goes, Polly Drover, will serve as the trip coordinator. Luke Miedema and other student ministry leaders will be helping out as well. Polly has been to Jamaica five times and has led three teams there. Your kids are in safe hands!
