Epic Moments: Discovering The Beatles, learning how to play chords on the piano, my first Paul McCartney concert, joining my first band “Inner Circle,” my friend’s dad letting me borrow his guitar so I would have something to practice with, joining the music team at NPC and meeting Keith Scherer, moving to Columbia to help start The Crossing, getting married and the WorshipGOD 2004 conference.
Education: 1980 Graduate of Troy Co-Operative Nursery (affiliated with the Greater Detroit and the MI Council of Co-operative Nurseries), B.A. Communication Arts and Sciences from Calvin College.
Favorite Bands/Music: Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Paul McCartney (solo), The Monkees, The Free Design, Judee Sill, Paul Simon, Hank Dogs, Over the Rhine, Joe Raposo, The Carpenters, Vince Guaraldi, Django Reinhardt, Benny Goodman, Arvo Pärt, Antonio Vivaldi, Gabriel Fauré, J.S. Bach.
Best Invention: Edison’s phonograph and Armat’s Vitascope – recorded sound and projected moving images. Brilliant.
Favorite Book(s): Valley of Vision, Music Through the Eyes of Faith by Harold Best, The Beatles Recording Sessions by Mark Lewisohn, The Road by Cormac McCarthy, The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera.
Favorite Movies: This could change at any moment but here is today’s list in no particular order; Superman: The Movie, Serenity, Être et avoir (To Be and To Have), Babette’s Feast, A Hard Day’s Night, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Concert for George, Trois couleurs: Bleu, The Shawshank Redemption, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Godfather, The Lord of the Rings and selected Pixar productions.
Favorite Shows: Battlestar Galactica (reimagined series), Firefly, Freaks and Geeks, Doctor Who, Star Trek: The Next Generation and The Muppet Show.
Spare Time: An excellent meal, bottle of wine and good conversation.
Fear Factors: Skunks and clowns.
Biggest Frustration: Pride.
