Elder

 

Influences: Parents, High School English teacher, Steve Martin and Saturday Night Live, several Campus Crusade mentors and friends, my friend Betty, my wife Leah, my years at UPC church in Orlando, and my boss Stan.

Epic Moments: Getting grounded and tested in my faith in high school; the glory years at Auburn including the night I made Plainsmen; running the Peachtree Road Race 5 times; catching an 8 lb bass; the Atlanta Crusade Christmas conference in '82 when I told God I would "do anything, go anywhere"; my romantic engagement evening; 11 weeks in the Philippines; seeing my sons born in San Diego and Orlando; the summer of 1999 and subsequent fall out; 3 months of ministry in NYC post 9-11; the move to Missouri and career change; several big time sporting events.

Education: Shallowford Elementary, Peachtree High School, Auburn University, school of hard knocks.

Favorite music: Dance and disco music, classic and contemporary country, classic rock n roll, James Taylor, Bob Seger, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Huey Lewis.


Best Invention: All Apple products, caller id and answering machines, cruise control, Tivo.

Favorite Book: Not a big reader (too static for my attention span); I am Third, Instant Replay, A Severe Mercy, The Match, Born Standing Up, Shakespeare Plays, Paul Tripp and CS Lewis books, online sports writers, GigglesBits blog, letters from friends.

Favorite Movies: Cool Hand Luke, The Sting, She's Having a Baby, anything with Steve Martin, Ocean's 11 series, Bourne series, We are Marshall, Fargo, John Hughes movies, Bull Durham.

Favorite Shows: Desperate Housewives (disgusting, huh?), The Office, Will and Grace, 30 Rock, Cheers, Friends, Survivor, Sportscenter, College Gameday.

Spare Time: Golf, fish, exercise, laugh with friends, travel.

Fear Factors:  Slurping/dripping during communion, dishonoring God and family, dementia, any household or car repair job.

Biggest Frustration: Vacuumed sealed packages, traffic, empty cartons in the fridge or pantry, unreturned calls.

Passion: Golf, family, humor, service and things that matter.

Motivation: Don't want to disappoint anyone; the promise of eternal reward.

Personal Motto: Laughter is good for all.
